elementor-element-30a72c1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"30a72c1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"padding-top: 3px; padding-bottom: 4px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Mikael Pirak &#8211; <\/span><\/span>Mikael was the former Rektor (Supervisor or Headmaster) of the Jokkmokk Saami School until 2019. He is currently an Art teacher in Jokkmokk and G\u00e4llivare Saami School. Mikael is our main collaborator for the Saami Inuit Youth Exchange Programme. Thanks to Mikael we have been able to work with the Grade 3, 4 and 5 children and facilitate short participatory workshops and school based research projects such as the Saami drawings Booklet, the short documentaries and videos and the environmental impact program with the Elders.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"padding-top: 3px; padding-bottom: 4px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Niklas Labba &#8211; <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Niklas Labba is a S\u00e1mi reindeer herder who grew up in traditional cross border reindeer herding, with summer grazing for the reindeers in the Norwegian mountains and winter grazing on the swedich tundra. The Labba is the last generation of reindeer herders that talks all scandinavian languages and has been living in a traditional \u00ab\u00a0Lavvu\u00a0\u00bb with parents and grandparents. Niklas Labba has been involved in research projects were he has combined his traditional reindeer herding, nature and sami language knowledge with academic schooling. Labba has been the director of the Sami Center at The Arctic university of Norway, the Head of language department at the Norwegian S\u00e1mi parliament and is today the leader of G\u00e1isi S\u00e1mi language and Cultural center in Troms\u00f8. He has represented both the Swedish and Norwegian government in expert groups connected to the Arctic Council and CBD\/UN bodies.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px; color: #485365; font-family: Quicksand, Cantarell, 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif; letter-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-text-letter-spacing ); text-transform: var( --e-global-typography-text-text-transform );\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"color: #485365; font-family: Quicksand, Cantarell, 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400;\" spellcheck=\"true\">\n<div style=\"font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; text-align: start;\" spellcheck=\"true\"><span style=\"padding-top: 3px; padding-bottom: 4px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Britt-Marie Labba &#8211; <\/span><\/span>Britt-Marie is a reindeer herder and belongs to the Saarivuoma Sameby. She lives in \u00d6vre Soppero. She was running a tourism business with Per Nils P\u00e4ivi\u00f6 until 2015. She created a small Saami Museum in her barn. She used to teach guests how to bake traditional bread, and showed local artisan creations, such as belts and belt buckles, made from the leather and antlers from reindeer.&nbsp; The couple also started to guide hikes along the reindeer\u2019s migration path in the Sami land.&nbsp; The starting point is situated at the summer camp of Gaiccacacc\u00e1, where every year in mid-July the whole village mark the young reindeer.&nbsp; Britt-Marie was our liaison person and a source of inspiration for the BOAZU project. She introduced her to her brother Niklas who has been since a strong supporter of Boazu and a spokesperson for the Saami issues world wide.<\/div>\n<div spellcheck=\"true\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div spellcheck=\"true\">\n<p><strong>Laura Martin_Wurtz &#8211; <\/strong>In 2018-2919, Laura came to Jokkmokk 3 times and assisted Sylvie at the Sami School translating from English to Swedish. Laura completed a degree at Helsinki University. Laura est \u00e9tudiante en master \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Helsinki et de Strasbourg. Elle a d\u00e9couvert le projet BOAZU sur le site de l\u2019IPEV et m\u2019a contact\u00e9e. Elle s\u2019est port\u00e9e volontaire pour participer au projet pendant la dur\u00e9e de sa maitrise \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 d\u2019Helsinki. Elle a co-anim\u00e9 les ateliers \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole Sami de Jokkmokk et fait la traduction orale de l\u2019anglais vers le su\u00e9dois. En f\u00e9vrier, elle a particip\u00e9 au festival hivernal de Jokkmokk, pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 le poster BOAZU et r\u00e9alis\u00e9 des interviews sur le stand. Elle est venue trois fois \u00e0 Jokkmokk pendant deux ans dans le cadre de son master. Elle a co-anim\u00e9 tous les ateliers <br>du Projet BOAZU 1208\u2010 S. Blangy \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole, con\u00e7u le poster (annexe 1) r\u00e9dig\u00e9 plusieurs notes de travail. Laura est trilingue (fran\u00e7ais, anglais et su\u00e9dois).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ola Bergdahl<\/strong> est professeur de Sami et d\u2019arts \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole Sami. Il a co-anim\u00e9 les ateliers participatifs \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole et initi\u00e9 le travail sur les impacts environnementaux et les changements globaux en classe. Il m\u2019a invit\u00e9e \u00e0 participer \u00e0 son propre projet CLEO (Circumpolar Local Environnemental Observation Network) et contribuer au r\u00e9seau \u00ab Barents Cooperation network 1\u00bb sur les changements environnementaux financ\u00e9 par le Minist\u00e8re de l\u2019Environnement su\u00e9dois de 2017 \u00e0 2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Irene Partapuoli<\/strong> est professeure de langue Sami. Elle anime des projets entre l\u2019\u00e9cole Sami et le Mus\u00e9e Sami : AJJTE2. Between 2013 and 2017, a field visit of approximately six weeks was made to Baker Lake at least once a year. Each student participating in the project wrote a Master\u2019s thesis and made a Powerpoint presentation about their research (in French, with a summary in English). The thesis summaries are found in the profiles below: if you wish to read a Master\u2019s thesis, please fill in the contact form.<\/p><p><b>Anna Deffner &#8211; <\/b>In 2013, Anna Deffner explored adaptation strategies of the community in response to cumulative impacts and changes as well as future alternative scenarios. She spent time with community members to identify the factors impacting traditional lifestyles, as well as to investigate the impacts of mining on the environment, community health and the economy. Anna completed a masters in Agronomic studies at AgroParisTech School of Montpellier, She is currently the Biodiversity project officer at BIOTOPE, a consulting company.<\/p><p><strong>Annabel Rixen &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>In 2014, Anabel Rixen focused her research on the future of the caribou and the perspectives for employment following the closure of the mine. The community created a well-being wheel to compare different future mining scenarios from a wellness point of view. Annabel completed her agronomic studies at AgrpParisTEch Montpellier, France.\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 15px; color: var( --e-global-color-secondary ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ); letter-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-text-letter-spacing ); text-transform: var( --e-global-typography-text-text-transform );\">Annabel est Allemande\u2010Canadienne et a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 un Master 2 en Gestion des \u00c9cosyst\u00e8mes et des For\u00eats Tropicales \u00e0 AgroParisTech Montpellier. Ant\u00e9rieurement, elle a travaill\u00e9 comme stagiaire au sein de l\u2019Assembl\u00e9e L\u00e9gislative de Colombie Britannique au Canada ainsi que pour Oxfam Allemagne sur la campagne internationale pour une agriculture durable. Elle a aussi r\u00e9alis\u00e9 une \u00e9tude sur l\u2019adaptation aux changements climatiques dans la gestion de l\u2019eau en Argentine, dans le cadre d\u2019une recherche avec le CIRAD. The participants attempted to convey to someone outside the community what Inuit identity means today. These encounters allowed space for the expression of individual stories, which could then take their place in the collective history of the Inuit. Elise completed her degree in Politic Sciences at Lilles University, France.<\/p><p><strong>C\u00e9cile Des\u00e9rigny &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>In early 2016, Cecile responded to the community\u2019s wish to generate projects to improve wellness and happiness in Baker Lake. She organized workshops that gave people the opportunity to gather together and discuss how they envision community wellness. C\u00e9cile completed her Master&rsquo;s Degree in Geography at the University of Montreal, Canada .<\/p><p><strong>Etienne Le Merre &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Also in 2016, Etienne looked at how the mine affects well-being in the community. Together with Baker Lake residents, he identified how the mine affects different criteria of well-being and what degree of control people exert over these. This resulted in possible areas of action. Etienne completed his master degrees in Agronomic studies at SupAgro School of Montpellier.<\/p><div spellcheck=\"true\"><b>Vera Avaala &#8211;\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-size: 15px; color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ); letter-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-text-letter-spacing ); text-transform: var( --e-global-typography-text-text-transform );\">Vera was the BOAZU research liason person in BakerLake from 2008 to 2011. She was facilitating all the workshops in town and in charge of the communication with the village inhabitants. Particuli\u00e8rement attach\u00e9e aux composantes de la recherche action qui forment le socle de cette recherche. Elle est int\u00e9ress\u00e9e par les enjeux de gouvernance des ressources naturelles, des repr\u00e9sentations sociales du territoire et des pratiques de gestion locale des risques et des pollutions. Elle \u00a0eu la chance de pouvoir m\u00fbrir sa r\u00e9flexion dans le cadre d\u2019exp\u00e9riences suivantes: la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019Aires Marines Prot\u00e9g\u00e9es avec des communaut\u00e9s \u00eeliennes du Pacifique (Nouvelle\u2010Z\u00e9lande, \u00eeles Tonga), la gestion des risques sanitaires li\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019eau dans les communaut\u00e9s rurales du Nord Laos (IRD\u2010CNRS), la gestion des risques d\u2019inondation en France (SCHAPI). Un Erasmus en Norv\u00e8ge lui a permis d\u2019approfondir la g\u00e9opolitique de l\u2019Arctique et de d\u00e9couvrir les conditions de vie en territoire Sami.
