NEW EXCHANGE PROGRAMS WITH FRENCH SCHOOLS

Mikael Pirak, was at the ArcticWeek conference in décember 2019. He was the rektor of the Saami school in Jokkmokk at that time. We took advantage of his trip to Paris to invite him to meet his colleagues from  the Occitan school in Montpellier and 2 of the Camargue area. The idea was to explore the possibilities to develop a similar exchange program to the Inuit/Saami one but with French schools.  In the 3 schools Mikael was extremely well received. Each of the 3 schools would like to develop the exchange on different themes and topics of interest. With the borders reopening, we can once again explore the avenues of the exchange prgram wich was initiated in December 2019.

OCCITAN SCHOOL "LA CALENDRETA"

Collège Occitan Léon Cordas

Mikael Pirak visited the Occitan school. He met with  Patrick Albert, the headmaster and was introduced to all the teachers. Two of the teachers would be interested in developing an exchange program about the languages (Occitan and Saami).  The Leon Cordas College is already organising an exchange with the schools of Poland, Finnland, Spain, Italy and Portugal. Please see the ERASMUS programm HERE http://leon-cordas.org/WikiErasmus1/wakka.php?wiki=PagePrincipale

SAINTES MARIE DE LA MER SCHOOL

Laurent Sarlat is  the Elementary School headmaster and teacher.
Laurent is very interested in an exxchange program with the 2 schools and suggests to submit a project to the European Union. Laurent would be eager to take his class to Jokkmokk and organise 2 visits in the the same school year. The Saami will visit the Camargue area and the Sainte Marie children will visit the Saami in Jokkmokk.  The Saintes Marie School is certified as a « Local Digital School » and is an experimental school for foreign languages such as English and German. The Saami Jokmokk Sschool is welcome to contact Laurent. any time.

ALBARON SCHOOL

The School is located in the remote village of Albaron, in the heart of the Regional Nutural Park of Camarques.
Delphine Ricci was previously working in The Saintes Marie de la mer school. She was the teacher of the class we worked with in 2018 . We also met with Mrs Lemeur (kindergarten teacher), whom relatives live nearby Jokkmokk in Sweden.  Mr Leseigneur (AVS), was also part of the meeting too.
Mikael offered some posters to the School (prints form his dadd Lars Pirak), They explored the possibility of a scholar exchange on reindeer herding, bull breeding and artisanal fishing.
