Biodiversity – Objective 1

Explore which plant traits, both aboveground and belowground, predict abundance, diversity, and community composition of soil organisms.

We seek to test whether soil biodiversity is linked to tree diversity and what above- and below-ground functional traits of trees may predict this link.

We focus on six key groups of soil organisms, i.e., heterotrophic soil microorganisms, mycorrhizal fungi, nematodes, microarthropods, earthworms, and macroarthropods, all of which having an important impact on soil processes. Using multivariate analyses, we explore which plant traits could predict abundance, diversity, and community composition of the six targeted groups of soil organisms.
